What is Mylar®?

Mylar® is a DuPont® developed and manufactured oriented, multi-use, versatile polyester (PET) film. Throughout our catalog, a few characteristics unitize this polyester product line; Mylar® films do not become brittle with age under normal conditions because there are no plasticizers. Polyester films have great archival quality, dimensionally stability, chemical resistance, moisture resistance, non-tearing properties, electrically insulating properties, balanced tensile properties and a temperature range of - 100 to 300F. Unique properties of optically clear polyester include color consistency, great clarity, and non-yellowing properties.

The brand name Mylar® is the registered trademark owned by the E.I. DuPont Corporation for bi-axially oriented polyester film (BOPET). The term or trade name Mylar® is used to identify polyester or PET that is manufactured using DuPont Teijin Films resin. CS Hyde supplies DuPont® Mylar® Type A film. The generic trade name for Mylar® is PET, or polyethylene terephthalate (PET).

Types of Polyester (PET) Film:

48-F Series - Mylar® Type A is our standard grade PET film. It is a tough, general purpose film that&#;s transparent in  (.5 mil) through 92 gauge (1 mil), and translucent/hazy in (2 mil) through (14 mil). Mylar® Polyester PET is ideally suited for a wide range of uses such as packaging, printing, electronics, protective overlay, barrier protection, apparel and many industrial applications. Because of Mylar® Polyester's inherent physical properties, it's a great choice if you are looking for a high performance polyester plastic film/sheet. Custom sized sheeting or roll stock available. Mylar® tape- with 3M&#; Adhesive is also available.

Mylar® Type A FDA Approval:
FDA Food Contact Status - All gauges of Mylar® Type A complies with the Food and Drug Administration regulation 21 CFR 177. -- Polyethylene phthalate polymers. This regulation describes films which may be safely used in contact with all types of food excluding alcoholic beverages. Uncoated films such as Mylar® A can be used to contain foods during oven cooking or oven baking at temperatures above 250 °F. UL 94 VTM-2 - for 92- gauge (0.023 - 0.35mm) UL Recognition - for 92-500 gauge (0.023-0.13mm) HWI=5, HAI=4, CTI=1; for 700- gauge (0.18-0.35mm) HWI=4, HAI=0, CTI=1

Type G, encompasses multiple specific designations (Mylar A, WO, MO, EL)
*Mylar® Type A meets MIL-I-631, of Type G military specification. & L-P-377

Why Choose Polyester Film?

Many of the unique characteristics of polyester film are the direct result of biaxial orientation during film manufacturing. Polyester film leads the pack with an exceptional combination of optical, physical, mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties. These features give polyester film a clear performance advantage when compared to other options. And, for all of the environmentalists out there, polyester film is among the most environmentally friendly thermo-plastic engineered films made.

Polyester Films Available By Tekra

Tekra offers the industry's most complete range of films from a variety of brands, with the most common being Melinex® and Mylar®, manufactured by Mylar® Specialty Films (formerly DuPont Teijin Films). In addition to our range of inventory in stock, we also offer polyester film rolls and sheets in the following characteristics:
