Pet Food Production Line

Is your pet food production linepet food production line in need of efficient, cost-effective solutions that can perfect your process and your product?

Reading Bakery Systems, headquartered in Robesonia, Pennsylvania, offers more than 120 years of experience in food engineering. Our innovative research and development capabilities enable us to design and manufacture the world’s most advanced unit machines and turnkey systems for the production of pet food, pet treats, and a wide range of other bakery products.

Our two primary brands – Thomas L. Green and Reading Pretzel – provide mixing, dough handling and forming, auxiliary, baking, and drying equipment that consistently meet the needs of pet food and snack food manufacturers worldwide, and make their production processes safer, more flexible and more efficient than ever before.

Dough Mixing

Continuous Mixing with the Exact EX Continuous Mixer helps to produce more consistent dough, a major advantage compared to batch mixing. It can be utilized for both soft and chewy and hard and crunchy pet food and treats.

Extrusion

The Reading Pretzel Low Pressure (LP) Extruder will enable you to create a variety of structural, flat and filled extruded and co-extruded shapes and sticks. It provides a more flexible, cost-effective alternative to conventional dough forming and sheeting systems for customers who produce a variety of pet foods and treats.

You can broaden your product range by substituting different compression heads and dies. Product changeover takes just minutes, and extruders can be configured with multiple die sets in 13? (325mm) and 15? (375mm) wide increments.

For pet food or treats with soft fillings, the Reading Pretzel Filled Stick Extruder System, which consists of a Low Pressure Extruder and pump system that combine raw batches of dough and dough filling into a specifically shaped filled rope, is another option to consider.

Molding

For high-definition 3-D shapes, the Thomas L. Green Rotary Molder presses dough into interchangeable die rolls and can be supplied with segmented rings for simultaneous, multi-shape production. A combination of electronic and manual control components allows operators to fine tune the machine for maximum product quality.

Baking and Drying

The Reading Pretzel SPECTRUM OVEN® offers a variety of heat transfer combinations in one modular design. The single-pass convection baking platform features operator-controlled air temperature, circulation speed, exhaust, and moisture removal for reliable, consistent baking of pet food. The addition of an optional SPECTRUM Multi-Pass Dryer will increase oven speed, production throughput and process control.

Product Research

If you are new to the pet food industry or would like to explore our innovative equipment, consider working with our team in the Reading Bakery Systems Science & Innovation Center.

Test the latest new machinery and processing techniques, duplicate conditions you might encounter in full-scale production, change and test ingredients in your products, and develop new products to improve the quality of your pet food and increase your profitability.

Extruder

is used for production of extruded floor wet granular feeds for farm and domestic animals, dogs and cats, predators, birds and fish, shrimp and shellfish. The resulting food has a high digestibility and purified from pathogenic organisms.

The raw material for extrusion can be made protein and mineral supplements.

Extruder operation principle:

Before extruding the raw material is mixed and conditioned in a mixer pre-conditioner. An important step of technology process is conditioning, in which the mixture is moistened and heated by hot dry steam under the pressure of 0.2-0.5 MPa and a temperature of 110-130 ° C, after which the mixture softens and becomes more pliable, which contributes to the better extrusion, less wear of consumables parts of extruder, increase of productivity and improvement the shape of the granules. After mixing and conditioning the raw material is fed into the hopper of extruder where it is fed to the working body by the feeder. The hopper of the extruder provides an opportunity to put different additives into the raw material.

During the process of extruding on this equipment the product comes through the following stages: heat treatment, dehumidification, sterilization, and texturing granulation.

Being in the working body of the extruder the raw material is subjected to the steam heat exposure duration of 4-6 seconds and then is subjected to a pressure of 30 atmospheres. The short duration of the process (no more than 6 seconds) allows you to save the contents of protein and does not reduce the availability of lysine. At the moment of combi-feed releases from the expander it is as if an explosion of the product, due to a quick reduction of pressure, the following changes occur: bonds are broken at the cellular level, changes in the structure of starch, carbohydrates are becoming more exposed by the action of digestive enzymes.

Also, after the extrusion the palatability and digestibility of feed improves, as the result the weight gain of animals raises, feed costs reduce, loss of cubs reduces due to the reduction of bacteria in the grain. The feed pellets produced on this extruder also does not raise dust and does not not collapse during transportation.

Advantages of the line:

• The line can produce food from natural ingredients

• Large surface of particles and a porous structure that provides easier penetration of the gastric juice and its own enzymes in feed.

• Grit unlike the granulators is not so hard, so doesn’t injure the esophagus and stomach of animals;

• Coarse-grained, so does not form dust and thus doesn’t causes sticking on the digestive and breath ;organs

• Resistance of granules to attrition.

• Stability and sustainability in transport.

• Higher hygiene of comni-feeds.

• The use of low-value wastes for cooking enriched feed.

• nutrients, minerals and vitamins content in received feed corresponds to the best world standards

• extrusion processing can improve the digestibility obtained in the line feed by 30%

The completion of line can be changed according to the buyer’s wish.

Warranty:

12 months from the date of commissioning works on the territory of the buyer, but not more than 18 months from the date of dispatch of equipment to the customer.
