I've experienced all manner of plumbing failure over my lifetime. Busted pipes, valves that leak or won't shut, cracked elbows, corroded water heaters, hose bibs that won't shut off, sprinkler valves that won't shut, a vehicle that crashed into a wall and demolished the pipes within, over-pressure relief valves that failed open, and I'm just getting started. Many times there is a valve on premises that can be shut off to prevent water from continuing to gush out. Sometimes the valve is there, but it's frozen, so it's as if no valve is there. That's when you call the water company and pray they show up soon to shut off all the water. They never seem to be in a hurry to come, though, your emergency is not their emergency, but they don't shy away from charging for all the water that goes to waste. Then there's the cleanup and repair form damage done by all that water. The sooner that water is shut off, the better.
I've seen plumbers with a nifty tool they use to reach into where the water company's meter and valve are. With a quick turn, all water is shut off. I didn't know where to get such a tool - and now I have one. You can have one, too.
As an example, the City of Bellevue, Washington, encourages their customers to shut off their own water, as you see in the photo attached to this review. They show use of this tool. Some people say to use a crescent wrench. Nope, not gonna reach in and bang up the meter as I try to swing that thing around. Some people say to use pliers. Nope, not gonna scratch up the valve, and maybe lose grip and fly off hitting something. This valve and the meter belong to the water company. They won't be smiling if these are damaged. The valve and meter are between you and the water main. Be prudent, be respectful, be responsible use the right tool. You won't have to reach into a bug-infested well if you use the right tool, too.
I now have this tool. I can't say I used it because there is no imminent emergency. I did check to see if it fits. It does fit, so I'm good. The added 4-way utility key was tossed in the drawer. When I figure out what I have that it fits, I'll use it for that. Meanwhile, I'm safe from another water eruption.

But I wanted this water meter shutoff tool the moment I saw it available for review, I could have used it in so many emergencies of the past - but I have it now and I feel a lot more prepared, and, hopefully, my experience has been a help to you.
