OT - Bulldozer question

The engines in all new converter type machines, as well as older clutch operated manual transmission Cats are overpowered to spin the tracks in the situation you describe! They are rated by "draw-bar" pull, not HP! Say that a machine weighs 90,000 lbs and had a 400 HP engine, was backed up to a 85,000 lbs 500 HP machine and had a tug of war! Who wins?

90K takes the 85K even though the HP is less, the breakout force of the drawbar pull overcomes the loss in HP!

Cat type tractors were originally made to pull plows and other implememts from their drawbars at the rear of the machine an were rated from that point by amount of pull by weight! Front blades were an after thought!

The amount the blade can carry depends upon the skill of the operator to get under the pile and hook up with the ground below. Every time you cut power to one track, you double the torque to the other, causing spin if not careful. Every spin, loses motion and efficiency and wears the machine down. Bosses watch, do it enough and look for another job. That bottom is expensive!

Dozers can be a fun ride on certain sites. Or they can feel like a nightmare from hell on others! Go through a rock-cut on the inter-state, a dozer pushed the rock down from the top to a loader below, not a fun assignment!
